The absolute eosinophile count together with the white blood cell count is an excellent method to asses the adequacy of the patients response to severe stress. It is excellent index of the morbidity and a useful guide to treatment and prognostication when related to the clinical status and progress of the patient. As a simple and inexpensive test, it is reliable enough to be useful to the practitioner who only has a modicum of equipment.(Author)
